It’s got a charming name and equally charming and quaint local attractions. Check out these popular places near and dear to Ypsilanti, MI.

1. Ypsilanti Historic District

This National Register of Historic Places-designated region is one of the oldest historic districts in the entire state. It’s located along Michigan Avenue and encompasses both historic downtown and the famed Depot Town, home of Cross Street’s railroad depot. The latter’s a great place to visit during the summer months, as Depot Town is packed with festivals galore: Frog Island, Elvis Fest, Ypsilanti Heritage, the Latino Festival, and more.

Several sites of interest are included within this Ypsi mainstay, including the Ypsilanti Water Tower (proud Most Phallic Building contest winner) and the wooden three-way bridge affectionately known as the Tridge. Ypsi continues its legacy as the birthplace of Domino’s Pizza by serving up some delicious downtown eats. And even the residences are worth a walking tour, representing architectural styles from Greek Revival to Tudor Revival.

2. Ypsilanti Automotive Heritage Museum

Detroit’s not the only game in Michigan when it comes to a love of all things auto. This museum, located at 100 East Cross Street, is the former site of auto dealerships dating back to the early 20th century. The building, a historic icon itself, has nearly three dozen classic vehicles on display. Don’t leave without taking an up-close tour of the 1950s-era Hudson Hornet: a true racing classic once piloted by NASCAR champion Herb Thomas.

Visit this classic museum in a classic auto that’s still going strong today. The Honda Civic, which first debuted in 1972, continues to innovate and lead the pack with ever-improving safety tech, updated and user-friendly infotainment, and a sleek, streamlined style that makes this sedan a trusted veteran preferred by drivers.

3. Rolling Hills Water Park

Stationed at 7660 Stony Creek Road, this water park’s the perfect place to cool off on a warm day. You’ll have access to slides, a lazy river, a splash pad, and a fishing pond. But don’t think you’ll be left out when the weather gets colder, because there’s much more than just aquatic attractions at this 439-acre park. A softball field, horseshoe set-up, and disco golf course are at the ready.

And the attraction makes good on its name, as it’s brimming with oak trees and rolling hills that are the perfect site for a wintertime sledding or cross-country skiing adventure. There’s also a ski lodge where you can get comfy. Or, if you prefer to kick back in the great outdoors, opt for a picnic on the scenic grounds.

4. Pease Auditorium

This concert hall and performing arts venue has been part of the Eastern Michigan University Campus for over a century. For every performance, up to 1,700 attendees watch the most respected musicians, dancers, and performers celebrate Ypsi’s rich arts and culture scene. A diverse range of talents has graced the stage over the years, from Maya Angelou to the Detroit Symphony Orchestra.
