The motor oil in your car protects your engine from friction, dirt, and corrosion. A routine oil change at your Honda dealer will help your engine last as long as possible and save you the cost of expensive engine repairs.

How Long Has It Been Since Your Honda’s Last Oil Change at Your Honda Dealer?

If your Honda has conventional oil, then you may need to schedule an oil service every 3,000 to 5,000 miles. If your Honda engine is filled with semisynthetic or full synthetic oil, you may only need to schedule an oil service every 7,500 to 10,000 miles. If in doubt, you can refer to your Honda owner’s manual for specific guidance on motor oil service intervals.

Routine oil service is important because the quality of motor oil degrades as it ages. When the oil in your engine is old, it can’t properly protect your engine from wear and tear. Some signs to watch out for include:

Low Oil Pressure Light

Your Honda dashboard has several helpful indicator lights, including a low oil pressure light. When this light is on, it’s because the sensors in your engine have detected a low oil level. The check engine light might also indicate it’s time for oil service. If either of these lights turns on while you are on the road, you should pull over and call for roadside assistance so you can have immediate service.

Engine Noise

A healthy engine doesn’t make excessive noise, so when you hear ticking, knocking, or other unusual noises, it’s time for service. A noisy engine is typically caused by dirty oil or low engine levels.

Gear or Transmission Issues

The transmission in your vehicle should shift smoothly between gears, regardless of whether you have a manual or automatic transmission. If you notice trouble shifting gears during acceleration, it could be because your engine oil needs to be replaced. You may also notice shaking or vibration while your vehicle is idling if your engine oil is low.

Exhaust Smoke

Your exhaust will usually expel a small amount of steam or exhaust fumes, but if you notice smoke from your exhaust, it’s time to schedule an oil service. Smoke from your exhaust can be a warning sign of thin or dirty oil.

Oil Leaks

If your oil is leaking when your car is parked, then there’s a good chance that your motor oil levels are running low. You should have leaks fixed by a mechanic as soon as possible to prevent engine damage.

Whether your low oil pressure light is on or you simply haven’t had oil service in the last six months, it’s vital to stay on top of your recommended oil service schedule. Schedule your next service appointment at Fischer Honda.
