Strong headlights are vital while driving at night when visibility is a key safety factor. If your headlights experience the following issues, it might be time to visit your nearest Honda dealer for new headlights

Does Your Honda Need New Headlights?

Your Headlights Become Dimmer

Headlight bulbs often grow dimmer before they finally stop working. If you find yourself squinting to see the road ahead, your headlights may have started to dim so gradually that you didn’t notice.

Sometimes the bulbs are still in good condition but dimness is caused by dirty, scratched, or oxidized headlight lenses. If you clean and closely inspect your car’s headlight lenses, you should be able to see whether or not this is the case.

Your Headlights Start Flickering

Flickering headlights often mean a bulb’s filament has broken. A flickering bulb is likely to stop working altogether soon and should be replaced right away.

Flickering can sometimes also be caused by damaged wiring or some other electrical problem. When you install a new bulb, if the flickering continues, you’ll need to have a technician figure out the underlying fault.

One of Your Headlights Dies

When one bulb dies, it’s best to replace the full set of two bulbs at the same time. This is because the other bulb is likely to be shining less brightly already and will soon stop working as well. If you always replace both headlight bulbs at once, you can be more certain of an optimal spread of light on both sides of the road at all times.

Your Headlight Fuses Keep Blowing

Fuses protect the various electrical components inside your car from sudden electrical surges. If the fuse for your headlights blows multiple times, you can be sure there’s a serious electrical issue that needs to be addressed. An experienced technician will soon be able to diagnose and resolve the problem.

How Often To Replace Headlights at Your Honda Dealer

How often you need to replace your headlights mainly depends on the type of bulbs you’re using. Halogen-tungsten bulbs have an average lifespan of 500 to 1,000 hours of usage, so they need to be replaced relatively frequently. Hardier high-intensity discharge (HID) bulbs last 2,000 hours on average, but may sometimes last far longer.

Xenon bulbs have a great average lifespan of 10,000 hours and light-emitting diode (LED) bulbs have a terrific average lifespan of 30,000 hours. If you wish to enhance the longevity of your headlights, you may be able to upgrade the bulbs your vehicle uses. You can ask about your upgrade options at your local dealership.
