3 Electrical Problems You Should Always Fix at Your Honda Dealer

Damaged Ignition Coil

Every driver knows that spark plugs are essential for igniting the fuel-air mixture in the combustion chamber. What is often less well known is that the spark plugs depend on ignition coils to successfully ignite the mixture. A spark plug only produces 12 volts of power, which is insufficient for combustion. The ignition coil connected to each spark plug produces 30,000 volts which are channeled into the plug, which can then successfully combust the mixture.
Ignition coils wear down due to age, and we check their condition during your regular services. A coil can also become damaged due to damaged wiring, a worn spark plug, or other engine issues. A damaged coil won’t provide its plug with the additional power it needs, and this will result in a misfiring cylinder. We examine your coils and the plugs and replace any damaged ones.

Check Battery Light

The check battery light on your dash doesn’t only apply to the battery. This light will illuminate in response to any problem with your electrical system. It could be triggered by a failing alternator, worn spark plugs, damaged wiring, or a dying battery. Each of these components, and all your Honda’s other vital systems have sensors attached to them that monitor their health and performance.
The sensors in your car are highly advanced, and they’re sensitive to even the smallest changes in a component. If they detect a problem, a message will be sent to your car’s computer. The computer will then log the issue with an error code. If the problem is identified in the electrical system, the check battery light will promptly illuminate. We’ll identify the error code from your computer and fix the cause of the problem.

Starting Problems

When you push the start button, a powerful electrical charge is sent from the battery to the starter motor. This charge energizes the motor, which then cranks your engine and the combustion process will begin. If you’re experiencing starting problems, the issue could be with the battery or the starter motor. Additional causes include a worn alternator, loose connections, or damaged wiring.
Our technicians will examine your starting system and identify the cause of the trouble. Once the problem is identified, we’ll repair or replace the affected components.
